  • Candace Johnson
    Chair of the Board

    Candace Johnson is Chairman of the Seraphim Space Fund Advisory Board. Ms. Johnson has a long and distinguished career as founder/co-founder of such space ventures as SES ASTRA, SES Global, Loral-Teleport Europe, Europe Online, as well as having played critical roles in bringing about space sector leaders including Iridium and ILS. An experienced venture capitalist and investor, Ms. Johnson has been a member of the Strategic Committee of Iris Capital for the past decade and until recently has served as President of the European Business Angel Network, now President Emeritus.  Ms. Johnson serves and has served on the boards of a number of emerging space leaders including NorthStar Earth and Space and Kacific.  She is also the founding president of the VATM, the Association of Private Telecom Operators, co-founder of the Global Telecom Women's Network (GTWN) and co-founder of the Middle East and North Africa Business Angel Network (MBAN) and the African Business Angel Network (ABAN).

    David Williams is a co-founder of Seraphim Capital Space fund. Formerly Chief Executive and joint founder of Avanti Communications Group plc, David grew Avanti from start-up to a listing on the London Stock Exchange. Building a network of high throughput satellites for services to the British and other governments. Prior to Avanti, David spent 10 years working in the City financing telecommunications with Chase Manhattan, CIBC and Babcock and Brown.

    Francois is the European Head of Airbus’ $150m venture capital group. Previously he was Executive Vice President of Airbus Defence and Space, and Head of Space Systems, where he developed Airbus’ strategic partnership with OneWeb – the poster child for ‘New Space’ start-ups that raised a $500m Series A in 2015.     Dr Justin Hill is a partner Dentons, the worlds largest legal firm. He is Head of Patent and Opposition Practices for Europe.  He is ranked by Chambers as an elite Band 1 patent attorney and has been described by Legal 500 as ‘one of the pre-eminent patent prosecution attorneys in the EU’. Previously a partner at Olswang since 2013 following being Head of European IP at McDermott Will & Emery.

Most notably as founder of interactive tv company ‘Sit-up Ltd’, growing revenues to £225m before Virgin Media acquired it for £194m.

    Folino Marco, CEO of Telespazio VEGA UK, started his career at Datamat Spa where he became Director of Dataspazio SpA and Elsag Datamat Space Business Unit. This was merged into Telespazio SpA, where he took up the position of Head of Satellite Systems & Applications. He graduated from Università La Sapienza (Roma) and holds a Master of Science in Electronic Engineering.

Stuart is a former Vice-Chair of UKSpace, the British trade association representing the Space industry, and council member of Eurospace. He’s on the UK Space Leadership Council, the top-level cross-industry, academia and government stakeholder group.

At Geospatial World Forum 2016 KK was placed in the “Geospatial Hall of Fame”.

He founded Qi3 in 1999 as a technology commercialisation boutique that focuses on the space sector and related technologies. He has over 25 years’ experience in the space sector, from upstream detector development to downstream applications of space data.

    Dr Vanessa Lawrence’s early career included senior positions at Autodesk Inc and Pearson plc. From 2000-2014 she was the Director General and CEO of Ordnance Survey, Great Britain’s National Mapping Authority and the founding Co-Chair of the UN’s Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (2011-15). She currently is working internationally as a senior advisor to governments, inter-governmental organisations including the World Bank and large private sector organisations is a Director of Location International Ltd and is a Non-Executive Director at the Satellite Applications Catapult.

Previously he held posts in technology companies including Surface Technology Systems and Trikon Technologies. He has also been Non-Exec at the Digital Catapult.

    Frank Salzgeber is Head of the Technology Transfer and Programme Office at European Space Agency (ESA), the largest space entrepreneurship network in the world; initiating over 160 industry transfers and supporting over 500 start-ups. The portfolio is set to reach 19 incubation centres across 35 locations across Europe, supporting 150 new start-ups each year. Frank was also Head of Commercial Development of Human Spaceflight and Commercial Exploration at ESA.
